Hmmm. . .It hard to give you an adequate piece of advice without having seen the style you illustrate in. I, personally, use thick lead pencils, brush pens, ink and brush, and sometimes, colored pencils. Whether you prefer soft lead, or hard lead colored pencils, Prismacolor is the way to go. They are costly, but they always give me the best results. As for drawing, again, I can’t give you any useful tips on how to draw better without seeing any of your work, but my advice is always the same, to you, to myself, to everyone looking to draw. Sketch from the shoulder and elbow, lock your wrist and forget about it, and don’t even think about how much the paper costs, it inhibits your creativity and makes your lines a lot less natural looking.
Regular sketching pencils are a dime a dozen, so any type will really do, but I use a brand called Design.
